Shapiro Prize for Academic Excellence

The award was established in 1998 to encourage and honor deep and genuine engagement in intellectual pursuits by first- and second-year undergraduates.

Students are selected for the award based on a careful evaluation of their academic records, taking into account the range, depth, and difficulty of their academic programs. This review is conducted by deans, directors and faculty heads of the residential colleges, who look for students who have challenged themselves to make the most of the intellectual opportunities available to them.

We are able to recognize only a very small percentage of the class, and we invite faculty to help us by identifying students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, engagement or progress this academic year.
