Todd Kent oversees the curriculum, staff, and daily operations of the Program in Teacher Preparation/Teacher Certification, which allows students to earn both a Princeton University certificate and state licensure for teaching in middle or secondary schools. He serves as the initial contact for students who wish to apply to the program and teaches the program’s introductory course. He also supervises students in the areas of math, science, and social studies. As program director, he coordinates the selection of the Princeton University Distinguished Secondary School Teaching Award given each year at Commencement and the High School Program which provides students in area high schools the opportunity to take University courses for high school credit.

Todd Kent joined the Program in Teacher Preparation in 1997 after a successful career at the Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland, where he taught science at the middle and high school levels, chaired the science department, and served as high school principal. He earned an M.Ed. in the social foundations of education and a Ph.D. in educational evaluation from the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia. He graduated from Princeton University in 1983 with an A.B. in economics. He has authored a book on the role of technology in education and has published book chapters on pedagogical knowledge and case-based teaching methodologies.
